Sushi :D

Img_1105_6All I can say Is SUSHI is out of this world. I tried sushi and it was absolutely amazing! I think I had tasted a little when I was younger and hated it (maybe becuase it was one of those small containers of sushi that you buy from the local grocery and was left in my freezer for 5-6 months….then thawed and yea the rest was not good….you have to eat sushi fresh and from a good place other wise forget about even trying it ). Anyways I went to this place called "The Sushi  Bar" it’s a very low-key but nice sushi place (very friendly atmosphere) and to know that you can watch them make the sushi made me feel a little better. I think the "California Rolls" were my favorite (had a little too much …and couldn’t finish the rest). But overall from eating some simple sushi at a low-key sushi bar, I loved it, I can only imagine how tastey sushi could be at other up-scale places…for now I am left to wonder…but soon to check it out.

NINE 9-the spot to be :D

Img_1082_1_1

So I ended up dining at this amazing place called "NINE" last night. All I can say is when I walked in I was completely speechless. This Steak and seafood restaurant is both a restaurant and club combined.

Nineima1 The club is on the upper floor and the restaurant sits beneath. The theme was very futuristic and the bar was out of this world. Nine is loaded with so much visual flash and so many luxurious dining experiences. The atmosphere was amazing and the service was just as great. I don’t think I even took more than a sip of my water, yet the waiters came by constantly and kept refilling to even  a drop of water.

The food was to die for (they are known for their specialty steaks which are boiled to 1200 degrees and melt in your mouth). For appetizers I had the "Grilled Calamari" with lemon and chili (It was a bit to burned …the only downfall of the night) and my friend had the "Shashimi n9ne" which was hamachi, salmon, ahi tuna, ponzu, tobiko caviar, and serrano Chile (kind of    like sushi but ten times better). For entrees I 9_1had the veal chops with a Parmesan crust accompanied by white asparagus and my friends had the 24.ounce bone-rib-eye and the "Garbage Salad" (funny  name) which consisted of Romain, shrimp, Maytag blue-cheese. cucumber.tomato, hearts of palm, salami, olives, and Dijon vinaigrette. Just listing what we had last night makes my mouth water all over again.

The drink selection is amazing just as the bar is. I had some "voveh" a french-Champagne which was better than Crystal (believe me on that one).

I highly recommend this 3-star rated restaurant if you want to have a good time with family or friends, the atmosphere is great, the food is to die for, the service is excellent, and the place itself is highly rated. For more info you can go to http://www.n9ne.com/home.asp

It’s Never good to have too much of Something !!

Yeah so my finals are comming up this week (2 classes will be over with) so unno what that means…that means overdosing on:

1.) Coffee
2.) Tea
3.) Anything Sweet ….CHOCOLATE!!
4.) Hookah
5.) Classical Music
6.) Cold H20!

Well I guess I in a way kind of overdosed too much on those above "6" or so listed yesterday! I had a cup of coffee, 2 large cups of tea, a gigantic cup of Banana Cream & Green Jelly Bubble Tea,  TOO MUCH HOOKAH!! (surprised I didn’t die from it! ha-ha…that means alot for me!), around 4 or so bottles of water and not too much chocolate. I mean it was only a Friday…so my dosing wasn’t as high as if it would be a Sunday night because a "Sunday" to me is like "rush hour", you have to hype up the speed and there is no time to side track even for a second, because when you close your eyes, your gone…no returning, your officially off to la-la land, only to awake to the sound of that oh so dreaded alarm clock blasting tunes of 50-cent or Missy Elliot! Yeah so I was supposed to be completing a make-up exam that I missed becasue I didn’t have enough time to study for it due to that big "Real Madrid" match last week, but no, I guess I didn’t make it because last night when I got home I felt like I was about to barf/explode of all my overdosing remedies to keep myself going….

Trust me Bubble Tea (especially Banana Cream with Green tea jelly mixed with H20, Coffee, food, pop, tea, and a whole load of Hookah…doesn’t make a good mix! and a couple of those things I had one after the other…non-stop) …I highly/strongly recommend for the future to at least choose 2-3 of the options and not all six or more!!!

Bottom Line: It’s never good to have too much of something!

Fruit Anyone?????

Fruit2wlet

Ok so I had originally written this posting to be posted earlier
this morning and had written it very good and thought I had posted it…but I
guess when I went to look for a picture
to be posted alongside the posting…I clicked out of “Typepad” and lost the
whole posting!!! Ok well here goes again (2nd time around, hope it’s
better :P)

Ok so my dad is back in town, temporarily that is (if he isn’t
here in
Chicago he is in FranceJ
)

He recently went grocery shopping a couple days ago and now due to that
shopping spree he had we have pounds of peaches, apricots, plums, watermelon, cantaloupe,
grapes, cherries, strawberries, oranges, papaya, apples and bunches of banana’s
(I am hoping a crew of monkey’s will break into my house and eat the them all! lol)
Besides all the fruit we have we have vegetables to make 5 gardens right now 😀
I think today alone I had 6-7 apricots/peaches, 3 fruit yogurts, 3 sides of
salad, one pear, ½ of an orange, and a couple cherries! When I had originally
written this to be posted at

3:30p.m.

,
I had eating most of that …and said: “ Who knows how much more I will eat cause
I will be up until 2 am at the latest…but I think that list is around my daily
intake (over intake 😀 ha-ha) Bottom Line: Everyone has their own addictions
like my dad has an addiction to be a groceryaholic (if you should call it
that!) I think I am about to explode if I eat another piece of fruit!
working/leading an Engineering project) anyways everyone knows he is in town
when they come to my house…you know why that is? Because the whole grocery
seems to have been imported to my house!! Ha-ha…ok so my dad gets a little
carried away when he hits any grocery store, I mean the man loves food
(especially fruits! Common he’s Persian (they love fruit, and lots of it

Chai…essential to living :D

C_1

Lately I have been overloading on chai not just the fake "Lipton" stuff but the real Persian stuff… It used to keep me up before but now it just soothes me and helps me become less stressed. I still think coffee works better with keeping me awake during my studies but I still love to resort to that good ol chai once in a while to help me relax a bit : D

Reza’s Great Persian Cuisine

Img_1737 Reza’s Persian cuisine by far is one of the best Persian restaurants I have ever eaten at. I have been dining at this restaurant since I was three years old and still am today. They have two locations in downtown Chicago one on Clark and the other on Ontario, but they recently just opened one up in Oakbrook, ten minutes away from where I am living, which is a very good thing. Considering the place just opened last week, I have eaten there about five times already! I have a bunch of friends asking me to take them there, because they have heard how good it is…and everyone who has eaten there so far has been satisfied. Rezas offers everything from Chicken/beef Kabob ( there are several types of kabobs), delicious vegetarian dishes, salads, stews, and the list goes on. The list of entrees/appetizers on the menu gives you a large variety to choose from. This dish in the above photo was actually an appetizer ( Vegetarian sampler…I was still full from the last night dinner there where I ate too much kabob) the sampler had everything from Persian salad, Hummus, taboli, falafel, Vegetarian Dolmeh ( stuffed grape leaves with a mixture of seasoned rice and vegetables ( one of the best on there), sweetened eggplant and there were others I don’t know the name of. Bottom line the new Reza’s in Oakbrook is amazing…the interior is beautiful and I think the food is even better than the two in Chicago, but the prices are more expensive on some of the dishes. I am so happy they opened one up so close to my house 🙂 http://www.rezasrestaurant.com/

Persian Cusine…one of the best :)

Dscn1650_1

Hungry? A friend of mine sent this picture to me with a little side note saying " I know you will like this picture…but too bad you can’t eat it: P" I agree with him… "Too bad I can’t eat it". To me Persian food is one of the best cuisines out there. My mother who is 100% Trinidadian strictly cooks Persian food more than any of the other cultural cuisines out there. I can say she is a lot better than native born Iranian ladies. I haven’t had a typical Persian meal laid out on the floor lately. Nowadays the Persian families here don’t do it the traditional way, rather the more convenient "No breaking your back" way. The last time I had a typical Persian meal served on the floor was about 3 years ago in Iran. I can say those were some moments that I will never forget. I will never forget the tons of aunts, uncles, cousins, cousin’s wives and husbands, second cousins (well you get the point…Persian families are large) all sitting down talking about the daily events, who is causing trouble, or who should be getting married in the family soon. I love this picture because it makes me remember my days in Iran and makes me miss it even more.

*Hookah Tricks*

Hookahchick

I was looking through some Hookah sites and came across some useful tricks and advice for Hookah smokers…I think they are really neat and interesting…

  • To allow the Flavored Tobacco to taste fresher and last longer, place the Flavored Tobacco in an air tight container. Do not place the container in the refrigerator, as it will ruin the Flavored Tobacco. Instead, store the container in a cupboard at room temperature.
  • To enhance your smoking experience, try mixing different flavors of tobacco in the Bowl. Try your own mix or use one of the mixes we have created: Strawberry/Banana, Peach/Melon, Apple/Strawberry, Mint/Any Flavor. If you have a good recipe, share it with the world by contacting our customer service center, and letting them know.
  • For a fruitier smoke, mix berries with the water in the Glass Base.
  • If you are looking for a cooler, more enjoyable smoking experience, place some ice cubes in the Glass Base.
  • To enhance your smoking experience, try mixing Lemon Juice, Cranberry Juice, or Wine with the water in the Glass Base.
  • Using Tin Foil over the Metal Bowl Screen will allow for the Flavored Tobacco to evaporate more efficiently.
  • Before and after every smoke, blow into the Hose to clear the Hookah chamber of stale smoke.
  • If you are looking for an extra cool smoke, place your Glass Base into the freezer for a couple of minutes, until a small layer of ice forms on top of the water. Do not leave your Glass Base in the freezer for too long, as the Glass may crack.
  • Clean your Hookah using the Cleaning Brushes after every smoke. This will allow for your Hookah to last much longer.
  • Use lukewarm water to ease the removal of smoke residue that builds up on the inside of the Hookah Hose and Shaft.
  • Placing the Hookah on the ground will prevent the Hookah from being tipped over.
  • If you have a dark colored Glass Base and your Hookah sits on top of a low glass table, try using a small lamp or a couple of candles to create a relaxing view of the bubbles and smoke inside the Base.
  • Use a small carrying case, such as a kids lunch box to store all necessary items to smoke with the Hookah. This makes your Hookah smoking experience much more convenient.
  • If the Quicklighting Charcoal is almost completely used up, place a new Quicklighting Charcoal on top of the old one to keep your smoking session going.
  • A rotating platform can be placed underneath the Hookah to make it easier to maneuver when smoking with large groups. This will prevent Hookah users from being severely burnt.
  • If you have a special spot that you normally smoke in, it is possible to make a Hookah holder using a old, low end table. Cut a hole in the table, and elevate the Hookah so that the Glass Base fits perfectly inside the table. Make sure that the Shaft is right above the hole when making the hole. This will prevent the Hookah from being tipped over.
  • When smoking Al-Waha’s Orange Flavored Tobacco, pour a small amount of Orange Juice into the Glass Base, diluting it with water. This will allow for a more Orange flavored smoke

  • Blackbird-Exquistie French Cuisine

Three_1 My friend was debating on two different restaurants located in Chicago that he wanted to take me. He finally decided to take me to this gourmet French restaurant called “Blackbird” in Chicago, only because he couldn’t find the directions to the other restaurant. The restaurant is very amazing in the structural perspective . It’s a combination of a modern look meets space ship. I was surprised that it was such a small restaurant but I guess that’s what makes the whole place stand out and makes you notice every single detail. All the tables are aligned neatly in a row kind of like the layout of an elementary school lunchroom. Each table had a lit candle and a signature yellow flower resting upon a little white dish. I noticed that a lot of the customers looked like big CEO’s of companies. The hostesses and hosts were all dressed in what looked to be Armani and Gucci suits and dresses…I guess they have to coordinate their looks to the high status of the restaurant. When I mention “high status”, Blackbird is rated one of the top 10 restaurants in the country and one of their chefs are rated number 5 in Chicago. The cuisine is French and of course French style cooking is always a small portion. I had the wood grilled loin of venison with local apples, Jerusalem artichokes, grilled escarole, and apple cider gastrique and my friend had the seared albacore tuna with manilla clams, baby artichokes, grilled treviso, chickpeas and salsa verde . My dish was delicious, but I originally wanted my lion of venison to be well done, but our waiter insisted that it wouldn’t taste good if it was well done so I said ok medium. The meat was a bit raw in the middle…and I ended up feeling a bit sick afterwards. The dishes were like little pieces of artwork. The way the vegetables and meat were arranged were like mini building structures. I almost hated to dig in and eat it. The desert was the best. We got the desert sampler where we had several miniature French pastries and chocolate. The chocolate was so thick and rich that even a little bite was too much and required several gulps of your beverage afterwards. The pricing is kind of high and the seating is too close, but otherwise I really loved the restaurant. The food was bursting with flavor and candy to the eye. I definitely would go back for a second round sometime.

    Hookah ..my true love

    Hooka_2

Hookah:A multi-stemmed, often times glass based water pipe originating from India. From India, it was made popular as the form we now see it in today in Turkey. A common taboo many Westerners do on accident is to pack the bowl with anything other than tobacco. This is frowned upon, but generally practiced in drug based societies because of the smoother, cooler smoke said hookah emits. Ok so that is the dictionary version of what Hookah really is to me the word hookah means so much more than those couple of phrases and facts here is my opinion and definition of what wonderful thing known as "Hookah" really means to me and hopefully to all who are lucky enough to try the fantabulous invention…I praise thy Indians for such a lovely creation put upon they earth 🙂

                                                Portia’s Definition

Hookah: also referred to as shisha, Ghalyoon (Persian usage), bong. The hookah is more than just a glass water pipe…if it were only that…then what would be the fun to it? It comes in many various designs and sizes (small,medium,large,extra-large..never heard of a giant Hookah..but there may exist one in some Arab Kings palace somewhere out there). The smoke that is produced from the hookah is the best part…big poofs of a cloudy wonder reminiscing carelessly around the room. The smoke can sometimes fill up the whole entire area if the Hookah smoker is a professional. You can easy get lost in the smoke exhaled from the Hookah..its a lot of fun. The best part of this masterpiece is the feeling exerted after taking a couple hard whiffs (NOTE: Hookah is 100% legal in the United States and almost everywhere around the world..it is not a drug and is not compared to marijuana or cocaine etc) the feeling is out of this world..as if you are floating on those clouds of smoke..like you are on cloud 9…if you haven’t smoked Hookah for awhile the level of intensity of smoking hookah is accomplished very quickly on most people. Inexperienced Hookah smokers should be very careful the first time they try hookah because if smoked the wrong way..well there are many things that can happen…not hazardous..for example..I have witnessed many friends start coughing up a storm and (NOTE: never make your friend or whom ever smoking Hookah laugh while smoking it because choking on that smoke is the worst feeling ..try it and you’ll find out). There are many tricks that can be done with Hookah…the best is kissing some one after smoking Hookah and exchanging the smoke to them to blow back out as if they smoked the hookah too (in which they really didn’t). Also blowing O’s, blowing the smoke out through a straw, making shapes with your hands (hearts, circles, etc) then blowing it out through your hands (very entertaining), blowing out your nose like a bull . I’m sure there are many other tricks out there ..but for now those are the basic… Hookah is a fun leisure and relaxation activity ..just be moderate with how much is smoked…oh yea how could I forget the best part ..H20 is usually the form of liquid placed in the hookah but my friends and I have used (Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Lemonade, Vodka, and we are experimenting with more)..there are endless possibilities to this wonderful creation…and I will never get tired of it 🙂
